Abstract
⺠Assortative mating can be based on preference alone and does not need selection. ⺠It can uphold for several generations with 13-15 immigrants per generation. ⺠Without selection and in the face of gene flow assortative mating falters. ⺠Selection is vital for divergence to occur with gene flow as counteracting force.
