Abstract
Charge and mass transfer in an electrochemical cell, based on an electrolyte possessing both oxygen ion and proton conductivity (co-ionic electrolyte), under the gradient of steam partial pressure was considered from theoretical point of view. It is shown that, due to simultaneous carry of oxygen ions and protons in the same directions, steam permeation through the co-ionic electrolyte occurs. Experiments performed with the BaCe0.88Nd0.12O3−δ have confirmed the existence of steam permeation through the co-ionic electrolyte.
