Abstract

•A new polyoxometalate-based hybrid was hydrothermally synthesized in situ.•An interesting 1D chain constructed from Keggin polyoxoanions and copper ions.•Complex 1 exhibits 3D network with new topology (46 · 47)3 (46 · 66 · 83).•Complex 1 shows good photocatalytic activity.

A new Keggin polyoxotungstate-based complex, [Cu(pz)]3[PW12O40] (pz = pyrazine, 1), has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, TG, and X-ray single crystal diffraction. In complex 1, one Keggin polyoxoanion coordinated with six copper cations to form an interesting one-dimensional chain, which was further linked by arrays of Cu(pz)nn + polymeric chains to construct high dimensional network. Topological analysis reveals that complex 1 exhibits a (4, 6)-connected three-dimensional framework with new topology (46 · 47)3 (46 · 66 · 83). Complex 1 shows good photocatalytic activity for the photodegradation of methyl orange in the presence of H2O2 under UV light irradiation.
