Two novel binuclear heterobridged copper(II) Schiff base complexes of general formula [Cu2L(Pz)] (1) and [Cu2L(Az)(DMSO)]·DMSO (2) (where L = trianion of bis-azomethine derived from 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-formylpyrazol-5-one and 1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol, Az = anion of 7-azaindole, Pz = pyrazolate anion) were synthesized and studied by IR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. Temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility measurements show an antiferromagnetic coupling between two copper(II) ions in complex 1 (2 J = − 449) and ferromagnetic coupling in complex 2 (2 J = 106 cm− 1).
