A novel chiral copper-based complex constructed from chiral ligand, namely [Cu(L)(H2O)]·H2O (1) (L = (S)-3-phenyl-2-(pyrazine-2-carboxamido) propanoic acid). Complex 1 was prepared through solvothermal reactions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 crystallizes in the tetragonal system with non-centrosymmetric polar space group P43 and affords one-dimensional (1D) chiral helical chain. Ferroelectric and magnetic studies reveal that 1 shows both ferroelectric and weak ferromagnetic properties.
