Abstract
► The reaction between enneamolybdomanganate(IV) and pyridoxine is found to involve formation of a precursor complex. ► The interaction between the pyridoxine and the oxidant occurs through oxygen atoms non bonded to the central Mn(IV) ion. ► The final product pyridoxic acid was characterised by its characteristic fluorescence spectra. ► A plausible mechanism was proposed and the corresponding rate law was derived.
