A new organic–inorganic hybrid polyoxometalate based on Dawson-like polyoxotungstate cluster {SbW18O60}, formulated [Cu(2,2′-bpy)3]2[Cu(2,2′-bpy)2Cl][Cu(2,2′-bpy)2]H6[SbW4VW14VIO60]·H2O (2,2′-bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) (1) has been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, XPS, EPS, TG and X-ray single crystal diffraction.Structural analysis shows that the polyoxoanion consists of a Dawson-like polyoxotungstate cluster anion[SbW4VW14VIO60]13- encapsulating a pyramidal SbO3 group distributing two central cavities of two {W9O33} entities with fractional occupancy (0.5) within the {W18} cluster cage.
