ZnS and ZnS:Mn nanoparticles and (ZnS:Mn)_CdS core–shell nanoparticles were synthesized by a chemical precipitation method, this method is simpler than previously reported methods for the same sort of nanoparticles. The nanoparticles obtained were characterized by XRD and spectroscopy techniques (fluorescence and UV–vis absorption). The core–shell nanoparticles present an improved fluorescence signal over ZnS and ZnS:Mn nanoparticles at 580 nm.
