Abstract

•1 presents the first example of 1Dmeso-ladder + 2Dmeso-layer → 3D self-penetrating structure.•1 displays an unprecedented (73)(66.74)(66.73.8) topology.•1 consists of rare meso-helical ladders and meso-helical layer.•1 has good luminescent sensing for nitrobenzene.

An unprecedented self-penetrating Cu(I)-MOF was synthesized. Interestingly, Complex 1 exhibits a novel two-level hierarchical entangled system with a new (73)(66.74)(66.73.8) topology first constructed from the rare meso-helical ladder and layer via inclined polycatenation, and also shows strong green emission in the solid-state and highly luminescent sensing for nitrobenzene.
