•2-Acetylpyridine hydrazone has been used as ligand in lanthanide(III) chemistry.•Dinuclear, quadruply acetato-bridged lanthanide complexes have been isolated.•Weak intramolecular antiferromagnetic DyIII⋯DyIII interactions are present.
The first employment of 2-acetylpyridine hydrazone in lanthanide(III) chemistry has led to dinuclear complexes with four bridging acetate groups of two different types and chelating 2-acetylpyridine hydrazone ligands.
Graphical abstractThe use of the 2-acetylpyridine hydrazone/acetate/nitrate ligand “blend” in lanthanide(III) chemistry has resulted in dinuclear complexes containing two bridging and two bridging–chelating acetate groups, as well as chelating hydrazone and nitrato ligands.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
