•Lanthanide(III) complexes of N-(2-carboxyphenyl)salicylideneimine were studied.•A unique 1D polymer of neodymium(III) has been structurally characterized.•The complexes have been characterized by IR and UV/VIS spectroscopies.
The reactions of N-(2-carboxyphenyl)salicylideneimine and hydrated praseodymium(III) or neodymium(III) chlorides give 1D complexes with interesting structural and spectroscopic features; the chains possess the singly deprotonated ligand which is in its zwitterionic form.
Graphical abstractThe synthetic investigation of the neodymium(III) chloride/N-(2-carboxyphenyl)salicylideneimine system has provided access to an interesting 1D coordination polymer comprising the singly deprotonated, zwitterionic form of the ligand, which forms an unusual 10-membered chelating ring and bridges two metal ions.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
