A new three-dimensional uninodal eight-connected metal–organic framework (MOF) based on pentanuclear cadmium subunits has been synthesized and characterized. To our knowledge, this is the first example of MOFs with the eight-connected 34414510 topology. The framework exhibits high thermal stability until 300 °C confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis and has a potential application as a multifunctional material with fluorescent and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties.
