A novel μ6-sulfato hexanuclear cobalt(II) complex, Na2[Co6(Hccdp)3(μ6-SO4)] · 30H2O (1) was isolated from the reaction of CoSO4 · 7H2O with ligand H5ccdp (where H5ccdp = N,N′-Bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]-N,N′-Bis[carboxymethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol) in the presence of NaOH in aqueous-acetonitrile solution and its X-ray crystal structure has been determined. The structure of 1 contains a [Co6II(μ6-SO4)] core unit which is held together by three heptadentate bridging ligands, Hccdp4−.
Graphical abstractA novel μ6-sulfato hexanuclear cobalt(II) complex, Na2[Co6(Hccdp)3(μ6-SO4)] · 30H2O (1) was anaerobically synthesized and isolated from the reaction of CoSO4 · 7H2O with ligand H5ccdp (where H5ccdp = N,N′-Bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]-N,N′-Bis[carboxymethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol) in the presence of NaOH in aqueous-acetonitrile solution. The crystal structure of 1 contains a [Co6II(μ6-SO4)] core unit which is held together by three heptadentate bridging ligands, Hccdp4–. Furthermore, the [Co6II(μ6-SO4)] core unit is providing a templating and stabilizing factor for the Co6 cluster center.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
