A new pillar-layered 3D open framework, {[(ala)2Cu]2[Cr(OH)6Mo6O18]}{[(H2O)2Na]2[Cr(OH)6Mo6O18]} · 23.5H2O (1) (ala = alanine) has been synthesized and characterized for the first time. Compound 1 is constructed from the hybrid two-dimensional cationic layers {[(ala)2Cu]2[Cr(OH)6Mo6O18]}+, and anionic bi-supporting {[(H2O)2Na]2[Cr(OH)6Mo6O18]}− clusters as pillars to form a 3D channel framework. Furthermore, magnetic measurements show weak ferromagnetic interactions for compound 1.
