A novel layered inorganic–organic hybrid polymer, [Cd3(μ3-OH)2(μ2-Cl)2L2(H2O)2] (HL = 4-aminocinnamic acid), with strong blue luminescence has been reported. Its particular arrangement of the Cd(II), Cl−, and OH− forming an infinite one-dimensional inorganic connectivity with the chair-like Cd4Cl2(OH)2 features is a new example of mixed Cd–OH–Cl discrete compounds.
