Abstract
												This paper presents a review of recent advances in understanding and modelling of hydrodynamic and morphodynamic processes in the coastal zone as well as some challenges for further developments. Different processes are distinguished, and for each of these, essential characteristics of the state-of-the-art are mentioned, with emphasis on recent developments, as well as open questions that are considered important.
