► Acute toxicity treatments showed strong negative effects on survival of D. melanostictus. ► Cypermethrin toxicity was concentration and time dependent. ► D. melanostictus exhibit behavioral and morphological anomalies on exposure to cypermethrin. ► Sublethal concentration of cypermethrin induces oxidative damage in D. melanostictus.
