Abstract
⺠A novel subtilase affected by drought and senescence was isolated from common bean. ⺠It was characterized at the gene, mRNA transcript and protein levels. ⺠Its activity in mature and young leaves increased on withdrawal of water. ⺠A second novel subtilase from common bean was identified at the gene level. ⺠Drought had no effect on the expression of the transcript of either subtilase.
