Native arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi isolated from a saline habitat improved maize antioxidant systems and plant tolerance to salinity

► Symbiotic efficiency of native AMF from a saline area was compared to collection AMF. ► Native AMF-inoculated maize had higher PS II efficiency and stomatal conductance. ► Native AMF-inoculated maize had less oxidative damage and electrolyte leakage. ► Higher SOD and CAT activities accounted for lower oxidative damage.
