Abstract
► Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) was used to study the genome constitution of Begonia × chungii. ► GISH analyses provide that B. × chungii is a natural F1 hybrid between B. longifolia and B. palmata. ► The genome compositions of the parental species, B. longifolia and B. palmata, was also identified by GISH analyses. ► The putative parent species share the partially homologous genomes derived from a common ancestral genome.
