► Half-lives of tebuconazole in soil varied from 9 to 263 days. ► Tebuconazole inhibited soil microbial biomass and activity. ► Nitrification was inhibited by tebuconazole during the first 30 days. ► Soil microbial functional diversity was altered by tebuconazole. ► No clear effect of tebuconazole concentration on soil microbial properties was found.
