Abstract
SummaryThe development of Candida albicans biofilms requires two types of adhesion molecule — the Als proteins and Hwp1. Mutational analyses have recently revealed that these molecules play complementary roles, and their characteristics suggest that they may have evolved from primitive mating agglutinins.
