Abstract
•Allopsalliota is a monotypic genus in the tribe Agariceae since 1986.•The characters of Allopsalliota here examined show synonymy with Micropsalliota.•This research contributes to the taxonomy and phylogeny of the tribe Agariceae.
The monotypic genus Allopsalliota (Agaricaceae, Agaricales, Basidiomycota) was created to accommodate Allopsalliota geesterani, originally described as Agaricus geesterani. After reexamination of this species based on both morphological characters and molecular phylogenetic evidence, we conclude that Allopsalliota should be considered a synonym of Micropsalliota, and we propose the transfer of Al. geesterani into Micropsalliota.
