Abstract

The objective of this pilot study was to compare the effect of two commercial DNA extraction methods influenced the denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) banding patterns of the fecal microbiome of adult Arabian geldings. The quality of extracted DNA appeared low per spectrophotometric analysis; however, DNA amplification did not appear to be adversely effected. The fecal 16S ribosomal RNA DGGE profile of Arabian geldings between and within samples differed depending on the DNA extraction kit used.
