The objectives of the research study described in this article were to establish a technique of applying a commercial continuous interstitial glucose monitoring (CIGM) system in the rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and to describe the longitudinal glucose curve. A total of 7 rabbits were included in the study and each was outfitted with a CIGM monitor with glucose data from the subject animals continuously recorded for up to 7 days. The CIGM system successfully recorded glucose values and allowed for the description of longitudinal glucose data in rabbits. The results of this CIGM research investigation in rabbits indicated that the use of the commercially available system was feasible and provided increased insight into glucose metabolism in this species.
