Abstract
												•Jorge et al., 2009 and Jorge et al., 2010 doubt homing pigeons use odours to deduce position.•They claim odours activate usage of unknown nonolfactory map cues.•They suggest meaningless artificial odours can activate navigation.•I argue that their hypothesis is inconsistent and does not explain their results.
