Abstract
SummaryThirty schwannomas from 22 cows were examined immunohistochemically. All were positive for vimentin and Ki-67 but negative for pancytokeratin, neurofilament, and desmin. S-100 immunolabelling varied between and within lesions. The numbers of tumours giving positive results for S-100, neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) were 16, 30 and 25, respectively. It was concluded that vimentin-positive tumours suspected to be schwannomas should also be immunolabelled for NSE and GFAP to confirm the diagnosis.
