Salmonella is a challenge in countries with a large sheep population. Preventive measures could be introduced, by first establishing which large population units (e.g., regions) are free from the bacteria and ensure that the bacteria are not introduced to these areas by purchasing live animals from an infected area and by use of a shared ram for mating purposes from an infected area.
