Abstract
Conjunctival vaccination with Rev-1 is the best method available for controlling Brucella melitensis infection. The rough RB51 and VRTM1 strains do not interfere with diagnosis, but are ineffective in sheep or goats. Recombinant vaccine strains deleted in genes for relevant proteins associated to diagnostic tests are, for the moment, ineffective. DNA-based vaccines are not available. Inactivated vaccines in new generation adjuvants are being also investigated.
