Abstract
Since 1955 Orang-Utans (Pongo pygmaeus) have been kept in Berlin Zoo counted in the period after 1945. The first breeding success was registered in 1963. The breeding occurred from this year on up to now. In the first years the young Orang-Utans were raised artificially, but now both breeding groups are taking care of their offspring. The oldest specimens are 34 years (male) and 41 years for one female.
