Abstract
The establishment of a consensus for the recommendations on rations of fresh, dried or dehydrated fruit and vegetable consumption, as well as products based on them, is an objective and a priority of the Association for Promoting Fruit and Vegetable Consumption, “5 a day”. The “5 a day” Scientific Committee created in October, 2005 as the Assessing Organ in matters of Diet, Nutrition and Dietetics, has created a Master Document in which the basic criteria and parameters to be taken into account for assessing and evaluating all food products proposed to be included in the fruit and vegetable consumption recommendations “5 a day” in Spain have been revised, and a consensus has been reached on them. Avoiding an evaluation based on single cases, the application of the Master Document by the Association helps to select the food products included in the “5 a day” message, for it is based on legal, technological, nutritional, dietary and health-promoting criteria. This article is an adaptation of the Master Document to be published in the Actividad Dietética journal.
