Abstract
The criteria for referring patients from primary care to hospital nephrology clinics are analyzed. Structural requirements and investigation of proteinuria, hematuria, and refractory and/or secondary hypertension are discussed. The following electrolyte disorders are also discussed: hiponatremia, hipernatremia, hiperpotassemia, and hipopotassemia. The criteria for referring patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, as well as renal and cardiovascular protection in diabetic nephropathy, are also analyzed.
