Immunosuppression in nonhuman primates

Nonhuman primate organ transplant models have been and continue to be an excellent conduit for the development of immunosuppressive therapies for use in human organ transplantation. These experimental therapies often make use of immunosuppressive drugs currently used in clinical transplantation and combine them in new and exciting ways with cutting-edge reagents and strategies. This review summarizes our own research experience and the experience of other leaders in the field using a variety of immunosuppressants in nonhuman primate transplant models. Information on drug dosing and safety is included.
