Abstract
⺠Endangered-species ecology is often only broadly understood. ⺠We modeled caribou habitat selection and use on a spatially explicit landscape. ⺠We tested five alternative behavioral strategies against eight observed patterns. ⺠Key strategies are energy gain and conservation, and predation-risk minimization. ⺠Behavior-based agent-based models can aid in scenario planning of critical habitat.
