Abstract
⺠Food webs of sandy beaches rely on imports of organic matter from the sea. ⺠Carrion is part of these imports and extensively used in other ecosystems. ⺠Scavengers react rapidly to additions of fish carcasses near the dunes. ⺠Birds of prey, as facultative scavengers, are an important component of food webs. ⺠Competition and predation by avian scavengers suppresses invertebrate consumers.
