Abstract
► We explore interactions among low density carnivores competing for scarce prey. ► Tiger distribution was driven by prey availability. ► Smaller-bodied leopards and dholes avoided tigers, especially in open habitats. ► Dholes were widespread in a prey-poor zone where tigers were scarce. ► Results match intraguild predation theory and inform actions for tiger recovery.
