Abstract
⺠We assessed limiting factors for butterflies during grassland restoration. ⺠For arable reversion restoration success increased to a plateau over time. ⺠Restoration success did not change over time under grassland enhancement. ⺠Restoration is promoted by rapid host-plants establishment. ⺠Dispersal and the national distribution of host plants limit colonisation.
