Abstract
⺠Brazil's Amazonian protected area network has lost only 1.4% of natural forest. ⺠Fine-scale analysis in the context of human pressure reveals a range of efficacy. ⺠Forty-six percent of area protected since 2000 has not experienced development pressure. ⺠Thirty-four percent of area protected has been highly effective at preserving natural forest cover. ⺠Sixty-one individual protected areas have been marginally effective or are failing.
