Abstract
A nomenclature for describing the numerical factor of safety generated by slope stability models of river banks is presented. The nomenclature uses a set of graded descriptors that enables a more nuanced comparison of different factor of safety values than currently provided by the conventional civil engineering approach; and is intended to improve communication between riverine geomorphologists, river managers and engineers and to aid decision-making.
