Abstract
⺠We studied winter dynamics of an amphipod on high-latitude intertidal mudflats. ⺠Mudflats are cold, covered in ice and affected by ice scouring. ⺠Amphipod densities declined linearly with time, independent of cold or ice events. ⺠Amphipods do not avoid stress by migrating, but tolerate subzero temperatures. ⺠Accumulated energy reserves appear to drive overwintering success.
