Abstract
► We tested predation pressure on B. violaceus in man-made and natural habitats. ► Native benthic predators reduced survival in both habitat types. ► Juvenile and adult ascidians were preyed on by native benthic predators. ► Biotic resistance may limit the infiltration of natural rocky reefs by B. violaceus.
