Abstract
► Responses to escapable and inescapable hypoxia were compared in S. lalandi. ► S. lalandi do not alter their average swimming speed within hypoxic conditions. ► Nor do they avoid progressively hypoxic conditions when they are escapable. ► No physiological stress was evident when progressive hypoxia is escapable.
