Abstract
► Predation risks varied among the vegetated/unvegetated microhabitats and prey fish. ► The lower mortality rate in the vegetated area was only found for the cardinal fish. ► Several anti-predator tactics may be responsible for differences of prey mortality. ► The cardinal fish had an anti-predator tactic associated mangrove-root structure. ► Others had the tactics independent of mangrove roots, resulting similar mortalities.
