Abstract
► A. antarctica recruitment to gaps was limited by availability of microsites. ► Seedling loss was due to dislodgement by hydrodynamic forces. ► Suitable microsites increased the anchoring capacity of seedlings. ► Recruitment to gaps allows persistence of A. antarctica among other seagrasses.
