Quasi-one-dimensional waves in rodent populations in heterogeneous habitats: A consequence of elevational gradients on spatio-temporal dynamics

► We study a quasi-one-dimensional population that expands and contracts. ► We build a mathematical model of the dynamics and show that the observed features require an Allee effect in the description. ► We find good qualitative agreement between the model and the field studies.
