Abstract
⺠The potential for collective movement is evaluated in groups of individuals that tend to follow their direct predecessor. ⺠This behaviour is quantified with a two-state Markov chain model. ⺠The results show that the cohesion resulting from following the direct predecessor is weak. ⺠A generalized model shows that the perception of more predecessors is needed to ensure cohesion.
