Abstract
⺠We define an epidemic model on a weighted network. ⺠We investigate how individual heterogeneity affects the basic reproduction number and probability of a large outbreak. ⺠The general result is that the basic reproduction number is increasing with heterogeneity. ⺠The affect on the probability of a large outbreak is more complicated.
