Pheromone-mediated mating disruption in the millet stem borer, Coniesta ignefusalis (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)

► Polythene vial pheromone dispensers were developed then used to assess Coniesta ignefusalis mating disruption. ► 0.5 mg dispensers applied at a rate 400/ha resulted in 86.8 communication disruption, but lasted only 21 days. ► 80 mg dispensers applied at a rate of 400/ha resulted in at least 99% communication disruption and lasted up to 3 months. ► Neither resulted in control of larvae or damage, possibly because plot size was too small.
