Abstract

Two field studies were conducted to determine the effect of diverse soil fumigant and herbicide combinations on Meloidogyne root galling, Cyperus populations, and tomato growth and yields. Treatments consisted of combinations of the herbicides napropamide plus trifluralin, the soil fumigants 1,3-dichloropropene plus chloropicrin (1,3-D+Pic), Pic, and metam sodium (MNa), and doses of the nematicide fosthiazate. A non-treated control was also included. The fumigation programs that included the herbicides napropamide+trifluralin in pre-emergence and post-directed trifloxysulfuron in combination with either Pic and fosthiazate or 1,3-D+Pic and MNa proved to be effective means to suppress root galling and Cyperus interference while maintaining high tomato marketable yields.
