Abstract
⺠Advanced breeding lines exhibited larger variation than commercial cultivars for grain and protein yields. ⺠Superior breeding lines combined high grain yield with high grain protein content without harmful pleiotrophic traits. ⺠Cereal protein yields can be improved to correspond that of field pea and exceed that of rapeseed. ⺠Plant breeding plays an increasingly important role in enhancing future protein production capacity of cereals.
